The World Classic is about to start. I have mixed feelings on this subject. Why does the Netherlands field a team? Why are their Americans playing on the Netherlands team? Matter of fact why are there Americans whose last name ends with the letter “O” playing on the Italian Team?
Phil Garner recently said he doesn’t mind everyday players out there, but he does worry about the Pitchers and how pitching here could affect them during the season.
I think the Classic is a good idea, but why schedule it in March during March Madness? Also duirng teams Spring Training? Wouldn’t it be better to do something like this in November where the pitchers will have time to recover for the next season, and not completing against one of the most popular sporting events in the world?
I’m just confused……Any Thoughts?

Wait, wait, Mike Piazza doesn’t end in a ‘O’ and he’s playing for italy. I think it’s something to do with a grandfather clause… ie if your grandparent(s) were born in one of these countries then you may opt to play for them. And since majority of these international teams wouldn’t fill out a roster, it works for them and the classic as a whole. My question, what’s with the run rule? It’s world classic of baseball, not world classic of softball, so pitch, lol.
I’m out…
