Astros Lose 7 in a Row, Pence Called Up

Roy O went seven strong innings, only allowing three runs and still lost the game.  The Astros meager lineup only produced one run.  This week Carlos Lee’s bat went cold so has the offense.  Morgan Ensberg currently leads all the everyday players with a .269 average.  Lance Berkman seems to find some life as he increased his batting average from around .200 to .234, but he still isn’t the Lance Berkman we know.

I have said that I did feel that Pittsburgh is a good enough club to surprise you.  However, there is no excuse to be swept by this team twice already.  They had a team one the worse team ERAs and each starter looked like Cy Young against us.

I was surprised to see that Biggio was hitting around 260, but his on base average is only 300.  This isn’t acceptable for a person batting lead off.  Chris Burke is only hitting 219, which prompted the move by the Astros to call up Hunter Pence.  I have to admit this was a bit earlier than I thought, but considering how cold the bats are the move was necessary. Pence was tearing up the pitching at Triple A, so let’s see what he does to Major League Pitchers.
I said in the last podcast about how a player out of position seem to affect their hitting.  I really suspect this is the case with Burke.  How long are we going to go with Biggio’s quest for sake of the team?  If Burke needs some time to get his head back on, therefore I would say play Mark Loretta.  He is a better hitter and fielder than Biggio.  What will it take for the Astros to make this gutsy move?
