Okay…
Let me first say, we should be glad that we took the series against the Giants. The key of being a playoff team is winning each series and the Astros accomplished this task. However, Roy O pitching against a rookie, you should like our team’s chances for a sweep.
However, to be fair, Lincecum isn’t just an average rookie. I heard on the radio broadcast last night that the Giants consider him a lot like Roy Oswalt, and Lincecum did pitch like our ace. Lincecum struck out 10 Astros while not allowing a run.
Speaking of strike outs, Craig Biggio was clueless last night has he struck out four times. He also went hitless in the series against the Giants. Frankly, our Rookie Phenom, Hunter Pence and our 100 million dollar slugger, Carlos Lee were the only ones on the Astros hitting.
I know some fans have been screaming to get Mike Lamb and his near .400 batting average in the game over the tarnished looking Morgan Ensberg. Well, Lamb went hitless last night and committed the key error that allowed the Giants to tie the game. A defensive play that Ensberg would normally make. Ensberg could have just gone 0-5 like Lamb last night.
I don’t want to totally put this loss on Mike Lamb. I just pointing out what we lose in the field when you have Lamb over Ensberg in the field. The best solution for our problems at third base is for Morgan to regain the form he had two years ago. I think last night exposed why Mike Lamb isn’t the answer at third base. Mark Loretta could play it, but i don’t think he has the arm for it. His natural position is second base…… Oh, now that is another topic….
As already stated, Biggio went hitless in this series. I am sorry, Biggio being the lead off hitter needs to get on base. Frankly, he isn’t. I would say right now, Loretta is a better hitter and defensive second baseman than Biggio. Has his quest to reach 3000 hurting our team than helping? Would the team be better off with Loretta or if Chris Burke started at his normal position instead of being forced to play out of position?
I know officially, Brad Lidge earned the loss last night, but I don’t put this loss on his shoulders. Feliz’s hit just got by Biggio earlier, and the hit by Wynn was a fluke hit off the first base bag that Berkman was in great position to make. This should have ended the inning with no runs.
I think the old saying, “Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.” applies to the Giants last night. Also, I think we as baseball fans need to keep an eye on Lincecum. Like Hunter Pence, I think this kid is the real deal.
Well, now it is time for those Rangers…
Side question… How many of you are more interested in the wives softball game on Sunday than the real game? I have to admit, I am intrigued.
