I don't follow other teams too closely but i'm sure a trade of a few guys in our bottom line up for a real good closer could benifit a few teams out there.

Well, the economics don't quite work that way. Roger being with the club would have paid for the money he would sign for. If you got, say 2 or 3 top notch relievers for that money, you won't get 28 million back in your investment.

Well it seems we have a 28 million set aside for a pitcher that never came through. We could buy a few good closers for the season with that money.

Alan,

You are correct, the bullpen did blow the game last night. The bullpen has struggled in recent weeks. Weird how they struggle once the team starts hitting better...

In the context of the last couple of weeks, yes, the bullpen has been a problem, but in context of the whole season; the bullpen has played fairly well, I think.

Bullpens are going to blow games over the course of the season. When a bullpen pitcher loses the game it becomes much more magnified. There is a difference between Roy O allowing a HR to give the other team the lead during the third inning vs Qualls giving up a lead change homerun in the 8th.

At this point of the season, I am not really worried about our bullpen.

Alan, you didn't mention some good pitchers, and yes, I am sure the Astros would love to have them. Question, how do you swing the deal to get them?

You know, I don't like the West Coast starting time. I barely make it through the 5th or 6th inning before falling asleep. And last night, I didn't see a reason to stay up. WE WERE UP 9-4 in the 5th!! Man, it's frustrating, our hitting has finally shown up, especially the bottom half of the lineup. Starting pitching has been okay for the last couple of series, okay giving up 4 runs, not good but not bad if we're going to put up 8-10. Just think about the wins we COULD'VE had if the bullpen COULD'VE held the lead. I know should've, could've, but come on it can be done. We don't have a horrible bullpen... do we??

I'm starting to dislike our bullpen the more and more I see our closers blow it. I think we have a decent 4 starters, not the greatest ever but good enough for a world series. We need a or a couple of hot shot closers who can garauntee our starting pitchers a win. We need a Smoltz, Mariano, Papelbon, or BJ Ryan. All we have is Lidge (kinda). Last nights game (Game 1 vs. Angels) should have been won.

If this happened a few weeks ago I would have said that at least the astros can start hitting better. But it is a shame indeed that he now found his batting groove.
